In December 2006, I read Paul Farmer's Uses of Haiti, a full year before I first traveled to the country. I started this blog to begin learning to think as Farmer does, asking tough questions about a nation, which has been used and suffered abuse for so long. Haiti has a hold on me. I'm on my way back now.

ReplyDeleteJust saw on the CSC facebook post that you're taking a year off to go to Haiti- when I saw your blog tests, I wasn't sure if you were going for a spring break or what. I look forward to your posts- you'll be in my thoughts and prayers! While I know that for most med students (myself included) taking a year off without much notice would seem impossible- I'm sure that it was no question for you ;)
